Join me in taking a walk by the river.
Take a deep breath in through your nose hold, and then out through your mouth.
On each breath out you are feeling more relaxed and it feels like you are sinking into your chair.
Visualise yourself in a meadow, the grass gently flowing in the breeze.
The sun is shining and you feel its warmth on your face.
As you stroll through the meadow you hear the sound of a gently flowing river.
You walk towards the sound.
Down a small gravely path, the sound of the gravel crunching as you walk over it.
As you turn a corner on the path, you see the river stretching out before you.
The path forks out.
One path takes you up stream and the other down.
You choose up.
As you continue to walk along the rivers path, you notice a bird above you keeping pace with you, guiding you.
The river you notice is becoming faster as you continue your walk the gentle flow has become a fast flow.
The sound of water falling over rocks is the only sound you hear now, along with the call of the bird.
As we walk further along you see the cause of the river’s faster flow.
A weir has been built along the path of the river and above this weir a gentle pool has formed, creating a tranquil place.
You see a tree and walk over to it, sitting down with your back resting against the trunk.
Becoming one with the tree
As you sit there you feel your toes growing
Becoming roots and burrowing into the earth
Entwining with the roots of the tree, anchoring you there
You sit taking in all that surrounds you, as you look up you see the bird is still with you calling to you.
You watch the river and see a silver thread darting up towards the weir gaining speed then it leaps out
The silver thread becomes a salmon heading home to the spawning grounds.
You watch captivated by the energy that is expelled in its attempts at jumping the weir.
Then another one leaps out, and then there are many salmon all taking that leap of faith knowing in their hearts that they need to find a way home.
You see in the centre of the man-made weir a smaller jump built specifically to help the salmon
but only a few salmon take this root and manage the leap easily while their brothers and sisters keep trying to leap the higher part of the weir.
You hear a voice behind you saying
There is always an easier way to achieve what you seek.
But so many find it hard to listen or even hear me’.
You turn to see who has spoken, you see no one but the bird above you.
You ask in your mind who spoke, the reply startles you.
I am always with you’
But you know in your heart that you have heard this voice before.
Come join me’.
You close your eyes and link with the bird
You are soaring over the land.
Others come to join you.
The closeness of the others gives you comfort and the realization that the others in your flock are known to you
Loved ones that have passed
Guides that have always been with you, but you have not had the time to acknowledge them, because your life has been so busy
You realise you have been trying to take the harder route.
After a time they tell you it is time to return to your body, but know you can return here at any time, now you know how easy it is.
You see yourself resting against the tree by the river and you go towards your body hovering there, then gently becoming one with your body.
You open your eyes and withdraw your roots.
You return to the here and now, feeling refreshed and well.
Take a sip of water
