Crystal Meaning: Opal is a exceptional gemstone that is not crystalline, but is made up of toughened silica gel. The word Opal comes from Latin and means "precious stone". The Opal is a delicate stone with a fine vibration and is found in a multitude of colors which ranging from: common, pink, black, beige, blue, yellow, brown, orange, red, green and purple sometimes showing iridescence (fire) in various colors. It aids in accessing and expressing one’s true self. It has always been associated with love, passion and desires. Wearing opals is said to bring loyalty, faithfulness and spontaneity but could also amplify fickleness when already present.
Opals are absorbent and reflective. It picks up thoughts and feelings, amplifies them, and then returns them to the source. It is a protective stone when properly programmed and can be used when venturing into dangerous places.
Opal is considered to be one of the seven sacred stones of the Cherokee people.
Magical Use: Opals enhance cosmic consciousness and induces psychic and mystical visions. Extremely good for yin/yang balances and good for business relationships. In mediation opal is one of the most powerful stones for the soul. Excellent for creativity, inspiration, imagination and memory. It enhances self-worth and helps to understand your full potential. In the Far East it is a symbol of eternal hope. They promote good and bad characteristics and allows the bad ones to come about so you can deal with them. Opals can be used to send healing to the earth’s energy field. Good for all psychic abilities and shamanic visions. Helps to overcome inhibitions. The crown chakra is sensitive to the energy of the opal and is also helpful in the throat, sacral, solar plexus and mostly the crown chakra.
Healing Use: Good for the kidneys, circulation, heart, stomach, digestion and is beneficial to the eyes as an elixir. It stimulates the glands and regulates the acids and enzymes in the metabolism. Aids in detox and helps infections, diabetes, fever, Parkinson’s disease and cholera. Strengthens the will to live.
The variety of opals are wonderful for many of the different healing capabilities they offer. Fire opal helps to manage depression, lethargy and blood disorders. Black opal helps reduce the impact of reproductive disorders, such as erectile dysfunction. White opal helps to manage neural disorders and imbalances. All forms of opal are useful during childbirth to reduce the severity of pain.
How to use: Opal are also beneficial for a positive psyche effect and restoring inner harmony. Wear on the pinky finger or place appropriately on the needed chakras. Opals must not be used in combination with other stones. It will lose its shimmer if it comes in contact with perfume, soaps or makeup. Opal is notorious for creating a better working environment.
Opals contain water which makes it sensitive to heat or varying from cold to hot temperatures too quickly. It is a soft stone, so it chips and cracks easily. So some precautions are necessary to keep it shiny and crack free. When not in use, opals should be stored with moist cotton or damp piece of fabric in a tight plastic bag to prevent dehydration.
How to Cleanse & Recharge: To cleanse soak frequently in water for half an hour then recharge among other crystals, do not recharge in the sun. This stone will fade or crack if left out in the sun, put in salt water, exposed to high or to acidic foods.
